Info
The Claptomaniacs are Sunshine Coast based musicians who began performing mainly Eric Clapton or Cream numbers to local audiences whenever they got the opportunity. Now they also do a range of other material, notably Joe Cocker covers and other classic rock from the 60s and 70s, as the need arises.
They are still broadening the repertoire and have included numbers from artists diverse as the Rolling Stones, the Doobie Bros and Steely Dan, not to mention a string of blues material, usually known as Clapton favourites. A few solitary singles from artists like Procul Harum, the Doors and Atlanta Rhythm Section are also sprinkled through the program.
Back in late 2013, David Zuric (guitars) decided to revive an old passion of his, performing the music of Eric Clapton to the multitudinous Clapton fans, wherever and whenever he could.
Having worked with Alan Lander (drums) in previous bands and well aware of his versatility and experience, he had no hesitation in giving him a call.
Jon May (keyboards- NORD of course!) was a logical choice due to his amazing fingerwork and knowledge of the material, not to mention his reputation as one of the handiest 'piano men' on the coast.
Jon Brown (bass) completed the rhythm section, also a former jamming partner and fellow band member of David's.
And finally, after ably carrying the lead vocals for the early months of the current lineup, David spotted (or heard) another potential contributor, jamming in a local party. Kenny Gamble was invited to join as lead vocalist, freeing up the fingers of the guitar man, and releasing the prodigious talent of this fine singer.
Although the musicianship of this group is highly commended, it is the vocal harmonic mix that often surprises listeners with its sweetness, in support of the virile vocals of 'the Voice', Mr Ken Gamble, who regularly gets standing ovations for his big Cocker voice.
Initially performing at the Coolum RSL on the northern Sunshine Coast on a regular basis, they have since played at a range of other venues including a residence at the Mooloolaba Bowls, Cooroy, Noosa/Tewantin, Bribie Island and Caloundra RSLs, Coolum and Noosa Surf Clubs, the Yandina Hotel, Yandina Bowls, Woombye Hotel and a string of other venues, including the Cooroy Fusion Festival, Maleny Music Weekend and two years in a row on the main stage at the Yandina Street Fair.
If you can't help but turn up the occasional Clapton song you hear on the radio, if you enjoy a range of styles from psychedelic rock to blues and country, don't mind a bit of good old rock'nroll without having your ear drums butchered, then this band is for you.
Why not book them for your 50th or 60th birthday, (yes we can do 70ths too) or check the tour information for performances in your area.
